Setting My Intentions for 2024
Celebrate endings - for they precede new beginnings. — Jonathan Lockwood Huie
While I’ve never been keen on setting a resolution for the new year, I do find January to be a refreshing, reflective, and inspiring month. It’s a month to reflect on the positives and negatives of the past year and look forward to what’s in store for the year ahead. I like to think back on what worked well for me in the previous year, whether that was incorporating a new habit into my daily routine, working on a new mindset towards something, and so on… if something didn’t work for me, I look at the year ahead as an opportunity to re-try and improve upon whatever didn’t work.
In 2024, I’m plan to work on my work-life balance (I’ll admit, this seems to be an overused statement these days, but it does hold true for me). While I’ve been able to work remotely since COVID and it’s been an overwhelmingly positive schedule change for me, I find it very hard to take much-needed breaks throughout the day and then sign off at the end of the work day to unwind and relax. This year, I’m planning on taking more little moments for myself such as enjoying a hot cup of tea midday on my sofa, as opposed to brewing a cup and immediately running back to my computer screen.
This coming year, with our kitchen remodel (finally!) finished, I look forward to spending more time cooking and baking. I am also excited to garden more this summer and spend more afternoons on our deck enjoying the fresh air. On the weekends, my husband and I also look forward to continuing to explore more of the lovely towns Virginia has to offer. I’d love to know what your plans are for this coming year — do you make a resolution for the new year? What are you most looking forward to?
