5 Design Tips for a Hunt Country Chic Home
Home is where love resides, memories are created, friends always belong, and laughter never ends. - Unknown
We are full swing into our house remodel, making this the perfect time to post about interior decorating (one of my favorite pastimes!).
True to the theme of this blog, we are focused on making our home what I like to call “hunt country chic”. Think elegant, lived-in rooms complete with nods to equestrianism, history, and nature. In building out this theme, I’ve come up with five key tips for turning any space into a hunt country chic haven.
Rich, Dark and Rustic Wood
There is something so warm and cozy about being surrounded by beautiful, dark natural wood cabinetry and furniture. Everywhere possible within my home, I like to opt for natural wood stains to bring a relaxing, natural ambience to the room. Dark natural woods, whether warm or cool toned, provide the perfect foundation to build out your décor, add pops of color, and other natural elements and textures.
Natural and Aged Elements and Textures
When it comes to accents such as door knobs, drawer handles, and vases, opting for natural and aged elements such as brass and stone it optimal for creating a hunt country chic vibe.
A Nod to the Equestrian
One of the key elements of hunt country is the tradition of equestrianism and fox-hunting. In my opinion, no hunt country home is complete without incorporating this history-rich tradition through design. Whether its figurines and statues of horses adorning your cabinets, a charming wallpaper, a beautiful oil painting gracing the wall, or a pair of vintage riding boots or crop sitting by the fire, giving a nod or two (or many!) to the equestrian is a crucial element of hunt country chic design.
Greenery
While I love fresh flowers as much as the next girl, when it comes to my home, I think there is something about dried natural greenery that brings so much peace from the outside inside. For that reason, I have arrangements of dried greenery (including grass and branches) throughout my home.
Inviting Home Fragrance
To make a house a home, there is nothing more important than a signature fragrance… a scent that says “welcome, you’re home, it’s time to relax”. I think it’s equally important to match the fragrance to the theme of the home… that also means seasonal fragrances are important. In fall and winter, I love warm spices, amber, and smoke. In the spring and summer, scents of fresh herbs, linen, and citrus are perfect. NEST New York is one of my favorite companies for seasonal home fragrances — they are incredibly luxurious, unique, and elegant in both scent and style.
